Exceptional food deserves exceptional photography. I create mouthwatering images that showcase your dishes, beverages, and culinary creations in the most appealing way possible. Whether for restaurants, cookbooks, advertising, or social media, every photograph is carefully crafted to highlight the quality and personality of your brand.
This is a difficult one to answer because a lot can go into this. There are many factors to consider like A. How many different items are being photographed, B. How many different photos do you want of each item, C. Do you want each photo to be completely different or do you want them to look like they were taken at the exact same angle and lighting, D. What kind of lighting style are you wanting for this, E. Do you want these edited to absolute perfection where every speck of dust is removed from the table cloth and every grill mark on the burger is uniform or are we adding droplets of condensation to a glass when there was none. These are all things to discuss before I can properly quote you.
The starting point is me coming in and using natural lighting to photograph the item(s) and editing those to a level of looking their best without needing to go into perfecting every detail. I’ll deliver those images in digital format at the highest resolution to ensure that they can be utilized in many different media. But most restaurants/hotels/bars that hire me typically want me to really elevate the photos to the best that their food/drinks/venue can look. For that I’ll bring professional lighting to make sure that not only the food looks perfectly lit, but also the entire table, or the background is lit in a visually pleasing way so it’s not just a dark wall or murky table behind it. Beyond that we can also bring in food stylists that have their own tools and tricks to make food look it’s best. And lastly we can bring in live talent to model the food items in a natural lifestyle type shoot or commercial type shot.
That is always something I recommend. Why not get some photos of your space while you have me out there already. It’s going to be cheaper than bringing me back out. It’s always good to have new photos done so you can always be marketing yourself. And if you’ve never had photos done of your space they are so important to ensure that potential clients really get an idea of what you have to offer. I started out as a pre-architecture major before I switched over to a photography degree so I absolutely love photographing interior and exterior spaces.
Most food you see in a photo has been stylized in some way or another. It might just be that it’s got a little extra rice underneath the chicken to make sure it’s laying at the right angle, OR the ice cream in that cone is actually colored mashed potatoes. Food stylists have many tricks that they know to make food look even better than I can make them look.
Food stylists are such a great perk to have if the budget allows. If you have a food stylist that you typically work with then by all means bring them on board. I can also provide one if you so desire. But if there is no budget for one I can also work with the chef to make sure that things are prepared in a way that make them look best for photos.
We can do either. Honestly, in the restaurant is best because it means it will be prepared the exact same way that it will be in the photos as in the restaurant. But also having your items plated in the environment that people will be eating the food is so crucial I believe. If this happens to be time or space to photograph in your restaurant because you don’t want to utilize that much space during lunch rush then we could use a commercial kitchen and set up there. Or maybe you want to do something totally unique and crazy with the food for the photos that requires a professional studio. Either way I am happy to provide what you need.
How many do you want? That’s the question you should be asking yourself and then I can provide that.
This also depends on what you are wanting and needing. It could be as quick as me showing up with a camera and taking a single image of a food item at your food truck which might take just 10 minutes. OR it might take an entire day to set up for a single shot. Usually though I am in and out within about 3-4 hours. That includes setting up lighting, photographing the images, and packing up.
Unlike some of my other photography, when it comes to food photography I don’t have a specific style. I can create whatever kind of style you are looking for.
A very important question. This is something we can discuss. But typically it’s for everything including socials, print, and advertising. Certain things like print in cookbooks or other things like that would require a special licensed contract.
No. There is so much that goes into food photography that you honestly don’t want the raw files.
Editing time can be as quick as the same day or even on the spot editing by bringing a laptop. Or it can sometimes take a day or two for a single image to completely perfect it.
I can provide video as well but often times I highly recommend that you have me bring on a dedicated videographer for the food because they will be doing both at once can be challenging. You’ll often have a much better outcome if I bring on a videographer to provide that.
I am currently a full time content creator for one company. I have the ability to add on one or two more clients. Or, if you’re just wanting someone to come in a day or two and do a bunch of stuff and deliver for you yourself to post, I can do that as well.
Some of the basics are making sure you have all the ingredients needed for the items wanting to be photographed, making sure that there is adequate space for lighting, and making sure that you have the staff needed to make everything. There are obviously additional things that we will discuss later.
Yes. Drinks and cocktails can always be photographed separately and have their own tricks for being photographed well. But also, drinks add an additional visual layer in photos with food because of the pop of color they tend to provide. So I often recommend having some drinks in the background or on the table.
I can provide props and backgrounds but as I mentioned before, I recommend using the natural aesthetics of your venue.
Chances are it is very likely.
I always recommend that we keep the food being plated to represent the actual plate that you will be delivering so that people don’t accuse you of false advertising. For instance if a surf and turf meal comes with one 8 oz steak and one lobster tail, then don’t use a 12 oz steak and two lobster tails. That being said there are always ways for us to make the plate look the best that it can and really draw the audience in.
What many people don’t realize that the two most difficult things to photograph is jewelry and food. You can get some great food photos having an “influencer” come in with their phone and an LED light or taking some photos with your phone but in order to truly get some really great photos you really need to hire a professional.
