I began my journey with photography before I ever had a camera. My childhood back in Sweden consisted of my father frequently pulling out the slide projector and making us relive old memories on the big screen. The photos often consisted of a sunrise or a sunset and he never knew which it was or where it was taken, but he never passed up an opportunity photographing the sun on the horizon. In fifth grade I was given a plastic film camera with two settings; Sunny and Cloudy. I loved that cheap camera. My friends and I documented our antics with that thing usually pretending we could slam dunk by lowering the basketball hoop and one of us laying on the ground pointing the camera up in the air.

In high school I took a photography class as well as being on the school annual staff documenting the daily life of high schoolers. Thats where I learned to develop film and spent a large chunk of my last two years of high school in the dark room not realizing that that would also be how I spent most of my college years.

I started out as a pre-architecture major at the University of Washington not understanding that the school that for some reason let me in, was also one of the highest rated public universities in the entire world, and that I would end up switching my major to something that would provide me with so much more joy in life than architecture ever would have. I received my Bachelor degree in photography in 2002 after a grueling seven years completing the five year Fine Arts degree. During that time I had photographed a couple weddings for some friends so technically I was a “professional” photographer before I even graduated. Those next few years were a constant grind of building my portfolio photographing anything and everything that people asked of me all while trying to make enough money to not have to sell my body on the streets or “Break Bad”.

Now thirty years later I am still doing what I love photographing everything from weddings, to concerts, to family portraits, to corporate events, and delicious tasty food. I love photographing everything under the sun because that means my work day is always different and unique. I never wanted to specialize in just a single aspect of photography. I think I would have never kept up with photography had it been that I just did portraits or weddings or something like that. I would have burned out for sure.
